In an era where old buildings are often stripped of their original features in the name of efficiency, a recent project in Lawrence, Indiana, proves that preservation can be the smarter — and more authentic — choice.
LAWRENCE, IN, UNITED STATES, October 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Window Consultants of Indiana has wrapped up a full-scale window restoration at The Garrison, a historic building situated on the grounds of Fort Harrison. The project was not simply about fixing what was broken — it was about honoring what was already there.
The company landed the job through its ties with the Window Preservation Alliance, a nationwide organization focused on keeping historic windows alive. Rather than ripping out the old units, the team’s mission was to save as much of the original window system as possible, making only the repairs necessary to give it a longer life.
Throughout the property, the approach was consistent: restore first, replace only when absolutely necessary. In cases where certain pieces were beyond saving, the crew rebuilt them from scratch, matching the original designs and specs down to the details.
A standout element of the work was the fabrication of historically accurate window sashes, crafted in-house at Window Consultants of Indiana’s own shop. Each sash was custom-made to mirror the original look, ensuring the building’s architectural character remained untouched.
“This project is a great example of what can be accomplished when restoration is considered before replacement,” said Brett Schubert, Co-Owner of Window Consultants of Indiana. “The Garrison has a history and character worth preserving, and we’re proud to have played a part in protecting it.”
The finished work highlights a broader truth about historic properties: keeping original windows in place helps retain the materials and architectural nuances that give older buildings their soul, all while cutting down on the waste and cost of full replacements.
For Window Consultants of Indiana, The Garrison is a showcase of the specialized historic and commercial work the company is known for across the state. The firm offers window repair, restoration, and custom rebuild services to homeowners, organizations, and preservation groups who want to keep the character of their existing buildings intact.
“Our approach starts with understanding what can be saved,” added Schubert. “Replacement has its place, but The Garrison shows how much can be preserved with the right restoration expertise.”
