A father of three uses his daughter's type 1 diabetes journey to explore how systems hold onto complexity even when it no longer benefits patients

Presenting under the TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026 theme "Reimagining the Possible," Krinsky shared what his family has gone through since his daughter Rumijean received a type 1 diabetes diagnosis shortly before her first birthday. He recounted five years of navigating her treatment within a medical device landscape made up of separate equipment, separate portals, and separate alert systems, and he contended that much of this complexity tends to linger well beyond the point where it actually helps those who rely on it.

During his talk, Krinsky recalled a pivotal moment over coffee with a childhood friend who also manages type 1 diabetes and had turned to an automated, open-source method for better disease management. Krinsky said his friend's day-to-day health metrics had shown real improvement, and that conversation brought both relief and a wake-up call. It prompted Krinsky to wonder why certain patient-driven innovations and simpler care models take so long to reach those who need them.
Krinsky went on to suggest that this dynamic extends well beyond healthcare into education, finance, and technology. Systems tend to introduce complexity as a way of solving a problem, and then hang onto that complexity long after it has stopped serving the people within those systems.
Krinsky wrapped up his presentation with a push for "one device by 2030," a call he described as a rallying cry for diabetes care that puts patients ahead of institutional complexity.
Krinsky has built his professional life around technology, design, and innovation. He got his start at IMAX in the company's digital arm and has since helped launch and back ventures across media, technology, and healthcare. He grew up in Laguna Beach, California, attended Yale University, and completed a master's degree at the University of Southern California.
