Participants gain hands-on experience during a bed-building workshop at chapter training, mastering the assembly techniques they will take back to their local areas.

During the training, volunteers from the newly formed SHP-SC, Kershaw chapter experienced the mission firsthand by participating in an actual bed delivery for a child in Utah County.

Volunteers from across the nation come together to deliver beds—and hope—to children in their own communities.

There is SO much to learn—from fundraising and organizing builds to getting volunteers involved and, most importantly, getting beds to kids in our own community who don’t have one.”— Kristin Raab Schlingman, chapter co-president, SHP-WI, Ozaukee CountyPOCATELLO, ID, UNITED STATES, August 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), the premier national nonprofit focused on constructing beds for children in need, proudly announces the addition of twenty-one new chapters and the renewal of leadership for seven existing ones. The quarterly chapter training, conducted August 7-8 in Lehi, Utah, gathered 60 dedicated volunteers committed to ensuring no child sleeps on the floor in their communities.

With over 100,000 children currently awaiting beds nationwide, expanding chapters is essential to reaching underserved areas and sustaining SHP’s mission of eradicating child bedlessness. The training equipped chapter leaders and core team members with the abilities and confidence to successfully run their local nonprofit efforts.

“These new and renewing chapter leaders bring tremendous passion for our cause,” said Amy Andrew, Director of Training at Sleep in Heavenly Peace. “Their leadership and excitement will help us reach even more children who deserve the comfort and dignity of having their own bed.”

For children growing up in households below the poverty line, having their own bed is often impossible, forcing them to sleep on hard floors, crowded sofas, or other unsuitable surfaces. A restful night’s sleep is essential for a child’s healthy development, influencing everything from physical growth to cognitive function and emotional well-being. No child should have to carry the weight of poverty into their sleep.

Since its inception in 2012, SHP has delivered nearly 400,000 beds to children in need—a figure that highlights the enormous scale of the problem. With SHP chapters currently serving less than 30% of the U.S. population, the need in communities still without coverage remains significant. Each new chapter moves SHP closer to the goal of no child sleeping on the floor.

SHP chapters are driven by passionate volunteers, including Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Core Teams. These leaders undergo a two-day immersive training program that provides them with the skills to manage their local nonprofit effectively. The chapter training covers leadership and management, development and fundraising, marketing strategies, and bed-building expertise.

In 2026 alone, SHP volunteers have already built 61,706 beds and delivered 51,792 to children in need, contributing over 334,692 hours of service toward the organization’s mission of ensuring no child sleeps on the floor.

“There is SO much to learn—from fundraising and organizing builds to getting volunteers involved and, most importantly, getting beds to kids in our own community who don’t have one,” said Kristin Raab Schlingman, co-president of the SHP – WI, Ozaukee County chapter. “We’re excited to bring everything we learn back home to Grafton and get to work!”

With more than 400 chapters and growing, SHP continues to advance its mission of giving every child a safe, comfortable bed of their own. The following new chapters—including the first SHP chapter in North Dakota—will be based in and serve these communities:

• Tucson, Arizona
• San Luis Obispo County North, California
