In 2026, Gallotti&Radice commemorates its 70th anniversary, a landmark that Canadian design lovers can experience at Maison Territo in Montreal.
Established in 1956 by Pierangelo Gallotti and Luigi Radice in Cermenate, within the Como province, the business started as a tiny workshop making lighting, mirrors, and furnishings completely by hand. Out of those humble origins came a singular focus: glass. Gallotti&Radice was the first Italian company, beginning in the early 1970s, to advocate for glass as a material fit for high-end furniture, treating it, as the house describes, “with sincere respect and careful handling, with authentic poetry and with intense discipline.”
That dedication yielded landmarks that still define the brand. In 1971, architect Luigi Massoni designed Adam, which the company calls the first table made entirely from light, transparent glass—an unforeseen triumph that introduced a fresh vocabulary for the medium. Decades later, the same hands-on philosophy continues: every item is conceived, crafted, and produced entirely in Italy, using glass, aluminum, and steel that are fully recyclable. Water-jet cutting and industrial tempering exist alongside the manual work of skilled artisans, so a standard collection piece and a custom order receive identical attention.
What distinguishes this house is its refusal to let efficiency replace craftsmanship. Glass is unforgiving: a single wrong cut or careless edge cannot be fixed. So every surface is cut, ground, tempered, and polished with a patience that has barely changed over seven decades, and the most challenging commissions are still finished by hand. It is this rigor—the readiness to work slowly with a substance that permits no errors—that gives each Gallotti&Radice creation its crisp lines and its nearly weightless presence in any space.
