A Fort Worth arts organization is accepting applications for a program designed to launch the careers of young artists who have never exhibited at major juried festivals, offering mentorship, professional development, and eventual exhibition space at no cost to participants.
The ArtWorks Foundation’s Festival Artist Incubator Initiative will select up to six emerging artists for its 2026 class, providing a two-year structured pathway from volunteer apprentice to exhibiting artist at the Art Worth Festival, scheduled for October 22-25, 2026, on the lawn of The Shops at Clearfork.
“If we want art festivals to continue growing, we absolutely must join hands to encourage a young group of artists,” said Camille Marchese, Executive Director of the Coconut Grove Arts Festival in Miami and a tutor and mentor for the program. Marchese, who also serves as a board member of the National Association of Independent Artists and formerly chaired the Winter Park Arts Festival, brings decades of festival industry experience to the mentorship role.
The program structure spans two years with distinct phases. In the first year, selected artists serve as volunteer interns during the Art Worth Festival, receiving hands-on exposure to the business of art festivals while participating in workshops covering financial planning, portfolio development, booth display design, pricing strategy, copyright law, and sales channels. They also network directly with festival professionals, jurors, and established artists.
In the second year, incubator participants earn the opportunity to display and sell their work in a dedicated Incubator Artists’ Tent at the festival. They receive personal financial planning consultations and become eligible for the Incubator Jury Award, providing recognition that can help launch careers in the competitive art festival circuit.
Eligibility requirements are deliberately inclusive. Applicants must be 18 or older, though younger applicants may participate with a parental waiver. No college degree is required, and no application fee is charged. The program gives preference to Texas artists, followed by applicants from bordering states, though non-local participants are welcome if they can cover their own housing and travel expenses.
The key qualifying criterion is that applicants must never have participated as exhibitors in a major juried festival, ensuring the program serves its intended purpose of developing new talent rather than providing additional opportunities to established artists.
Applications remain open through August 31, 2026. The program addresses a recognized pipeline problem in the art festival industry, where emerging artists often lack the knowledge, connections, and financial resources to break into a circuit that can provide sustainable income for those who master it.
