Travis proudly served on active duty in the United States Army for more than 21 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. His final assignment marked the peak of his military service. He served as the Deputy, Sergeants Major Branch at the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, overseeing the assignments and career progression of the Army's Sergeants Major and Command Sergeants Major. I took tremendous pride in making sure every assignment was handled professionally, fairly, and with integrity."
Following his military retirement, Travis continued to serve the nation for another 15 years as a federal civilian supporting the United States Army Special Operations Command. His military and civilian careers gave him decades of experience in leadership, planning, communication, and serving others under demanding conditions. The caller would ask, ‘Do you know who this is?’ Without hesitation, I'd answer, ‘Yes… Sergeant Major.’ There would always be a pause before we both laughed. Then they'd introduce themselves. It became an inside joke because if someone was calling the Sergeants Major Branch, chances were, they were a Sergeant Major. Even in demanding positions, I learned that professionalism and a little humor can go a long way toward building relationships. When I retired from the Army, my mission didn't end.
