MedHaven Health reopens in Glen Burnie after Empire Towers evacuation forced two-month shutdown

After a sudden evacuation disrupted patient care for nearly two months, a Glen Burnie clinic has found a new home and is once again accepting appointments.

GLEN BURNE, MD, UNITED STATES, October 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — What began as a routine summer quickly turned into an operational nightmare for MedHaven Health when structural issues at Empire Towers forced an emergency shutdown on July 9, 2026. The evacuation, prompted by concerns over the building’s parking garage, pushed the medical practice out of its offices and cut off access to exam rooms, medical supplies, and essential equipment. Now, after weeks of uncertainty and remote-only care, the clinic has officially reopened at 1600 Crain Highway South, Suite 201, Glen Burnie, MD 21061, bringing in-person healthcare back to the area.

The sudden closure did more than just displace the practice — it disrupted essential medical services for patients who relied on regular visits for primary care, chronic condition management, and preventive treatment. With the building off-limits, MedHaven Health had to pivot quickly, offering limited telehealth appointments while scouting for a new permanent home. That search concluded on September 1, 2026, when the clinic opened its doors at the new location, less than two months after being forced out.

Getting to that point was far from simple. The practice had to absorb the financial strain of outfitting a new office while also keeping staff intact, preserving patient trust, and restoring the in-person services that simply couldn’t be delivered over the phone or video. It was a logistical and emotional hurdle that tested the team’s resolve.

"Our biggest concern throughout this experience has been our patients and making sure they continue receiving the care they need," said Oluwakemi Balogun, CRNP, FNP-BC, Medical Director of MedHaven Health. "It has been a difficult journey, but we're grateful to be open again and continue serving the community that has supported us."

The new facility is now fully operational, with MedHaven Health resuming a full slate of services including primary care, women's health, preventive screenings, chronic disease management, mental health support, addiction treatment, vaccinations, and routine medical care.

The practice is welcoming both returning and first-time patients from Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Severn, Millersville, and neighboring communities. Coverage includes Medicare, Maryland Medicaid, and a wide range of commercial insurance plans. Same-day appointments may be available depending on scheduling availability.

Why it matters: The swift reopening of MedHaven Health highlights how vulnerable community clinics can be to building-related emergencies — and how quickly they can lose access to vital resources. For patients in Anne Arundel County, the return of in-person care means a restoration of routine services that telehealth could not fully replace, from screenings to chronic disease management. It also underscores the importance of operational resilience for small healthcare providers facing sudden displacement.
